Which version this covers
This policy describes version 1 (V1) of the app, which is entirely on-device. A future Pro version (V2) will offer optional features that store data remotely — so you can use the app across your own devices — and let you share lists with friends and family who also use the app. Those features are not part of this version, are always opt-in, and will be covered by an updated policy before they are released. V1 never sends the information you enter to us or to anyone else — the single exception to its “no network” design is the “Fetch details” request you trigger yourself, described under “Fetch details” below.
Who we are
Genie's Wishlists ("the app") is provided by geniosity ("we", "us"), the company responsible for the app and for handling any personal information (PII) it processes. For any privacy question or request, contact us at james@genieswishlists.com.
What information the app handles
You can enter personal information (PII) such as your name, date of birth, preferred currency, clothing sizes, profile photo, wish lists and items (with optional prices, links, and images), the people you gift for, and important dates. In this version, all of it is stored only in a database on your own device.
We do not collect your data
In this version the app has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. The information you enter — your profile, lists, items, people, dates, sizes and photos — is never transmitted off your device to us or to any third party. We could not receive it even if we wanted to: there is nowhere for it to go. This is reflected in our Google Play Data safety declaration as "no data collected and no data shared."
“Fetch details” — the one time the app uses the internet
When an item has a link, a “Fetch details” button appears beside it. If you tap it, the app asks that page for the product's name, price and photo, so you don't have to type them in. That is the only feature in the app that uses the internet, and it only ever runs when you tap the button.
- What is sent: the link you pasted, to that link's own website — plus, if the page offers a product photo and your item has none yet, one further request for that picture (often to the shop's image server). Nothing else.
- What is never sent: anything else in the app. Your name, date of birth, lists, items, prices, notes, people, dates, sizes and photos are not part of the request and cannot be. No account, advertising ID, device ID or any other identifier is attached — the request identifies the app, never you.
- How often: one tap, one request for the page and at most one for the picture. There are no retries, nothing in the background, and nothing happens automatically — without your tap, the app makes no requests at all.
- Where it goes: straight from your device to that shop. It does not pass through us, and nothing about it is sent to us or stored anywhere off your device. The name, price and photo it finds are saved on your device like anything else you type in, and you can edit or delete them.
As with any web request — including opening the same link in your browser — the site you contact can see that a request was made and the internet (IP) address it came from. We never see it.
When data leaves your device — only if you choose
Data leaves your device solely through actions you initiate:
- Share a list: creates text you send via an app you pick.
- Export your data: creates a backup file you save or send where you choose.
- Automatic backup (optional, off by default): if you turn it on in Settings → Backup, Android's own backup service stores a copy of the app's data and photos in your Google Drive (encrypted by Google, tied to your Google account) so it can be restored on a new phone. We cannot access these backups. Turning the switch off stops future backups; Android replaces the stored backup on its next scheduled pass. You can also review or remove app backups in your Google account's backup settings.
- Fetch details (optional, one tap at a time): sends the product link you pasted to that shop's own website to read the item's name, price and photo. It sends nothing else, and never runs on its own.
You control the destination in every case.
Permissions the app uses
- Notifications — to show occasion reminders, scheduled locally on your device.
- Photos / camera — only to attach images you pick to your profile, lists, items, or people.
- File access — only to save or open an export file you request.
- Internet — used in one place only: the “Fetch details” request you trigger yourself. It is also what lets your browser open a product link or this policy when you tap one. It is never used to send the information you have entered anywhere.
Your rights over your information
Because your information stays on your device, you have direct control over it at all times. You can:
- Access and correct any information by viewing or editing it in the app.
- Delete any item, or erase everything via Settings → Clear all data, or by uninstalling the app.
- Port your data using Settings → Export.
In this version there is no transfer of your information to us, and no third-party processing by us — nothing leaves your device unless you share, export, opt in to the Google Drive backup, or tap Fetch details, all described above. You may also have additional rights over your personal information (PII) under the data-protection laws of your country. Children
Genie's Wishlists is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. It collects nothing from anyone.
